According to police, officers from the state police, Fairfield and Westport responded to the area of Saugatuck Avenue near I-95 on a report of a single-vehicle crash.
When they arrived, they found the car had struck a tree while attempting to exit I-95, but Patel had fled the scene. He was found a short time later near the Exit 17 southbound off-ramp of I-95, police said.
At the time, he was arrested by Fairfield officers for the robbery. Shortly after, Westport officials were granted a warrant for his arrest in connection with the crash.
On Monday, after posting $100,000 for the robbery, Westport police were waiting for him and arrested him on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Patel post $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
